“Our Revolution” Endorses Rep. Tulsi Gabbard

For Immediate Release
July 23, 2018

Honolulu, HI--Our Revolution and its Hawai`i affiliate announced their formal endorsement of Tulsi Gabbard to continue serving as US Representative for the people of Hawaii's Second Congressional District.

"Our Revolution Hawai`i was one of the national organization's very first local affiliates, and I'm grateful to have earned their support as we work together to make sure our government works to serve the interests of the people and our planet. I look forward to continuing our work to empower and serve the people over big money special interests, promoting issues like Medicare for All, affordable housing, education, peace, and working towards ensuring we have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people."
--Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard

"Our Revolution is proud to support Rep. Tulsi Gabbard's re-election. Tulsi's spirit of giving and service is an embodiment of what makes Hawai`i so unique. There isn't a group of people or an issue across the islands that she hasn't worked for--from at-risk children to protecting natural resources. In Congress, Tulsi will continue to support Medicare for All, ending our use of fossil fuels, and reducing income and wealth inequality."
--Former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner, President of Our Revolution

"Our Revolution Hawai`i is enthusiastic to announce our endorsement for Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard after meeting with her to talk about our platform issues. Tulsi is a courageous representative who serves our country in uniform while also fighting for her constituents on many of the progressive issues that Our Revolution stands for, including the rejection of campaign contributions from political action committees and her work for criminal justice reform, affordable housing and healthcare, and so much more."
-- John Miller, Our Revolution Hawai`i

"I stood with Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard at Standing Rock to protect access to clean water, and I also attended one of Tulsi's many town halls as she spoke with the people of Hawai`i on a tour that included multiple stops and every island. She spoke about so many important issues, and I was blown away by how many people in the community showed up to ask her questions, share their concerns, and speak about their hopes for the future of Hawai`i and our country. Tulsi listened to the community and vowed to continue fighting for the rights and health of our nation and these islands, with aloha. This is what democracy looks like. This is how we will heal our nationwide wounds and move forward in a good way."
-- Actress and Environmental Activist Shailene Woodley, Our Revolution Board Member

Earlier this year, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and the Honorable Nina Turner, president of Our Revolution, traveled across the state of Hawai`i to promote citizen engagement, grassroots organizing, and efforts to reform and strengthen democracy and the Democratic Party. They held town halls and responded to questions from the audience and encouraged residents in each county to stay involved and become agents of positive change. The four events on O`ahu, Hawai`i Island, Maui, and Kaua`i were sponsored by the Democratic Party of Hawai`i.

Background:

Our Revolution is an organization dedicated to reclaiming democracy for the working people of America by harnessing the transformative energy of the "political revolution" inspired by Bernie Sanders' run for president. Our Revolution has three intertwined goals: to revitalize American democracy, empower progressive leaders, and elevate the political consciousness.
